4/27/2020 0 Comments Wasatch Mountain State ParkGood morning Meadowlarks!
This weekend we explored Wasatch Mountain State Park. Mostly we were looking for bugs that we could take pictures of. Bugs move very fast and are very difficult to photograph. So... we only got one poor photograph of a butterfly and a photograph of a spider that mostly looked like weeds. I did photograph some horsetail plants because they don't move.

4/24/2020 0 Comments Non-Student Day...I hope you are enjoying your day off from school- It is a little different this year! :)
Last weekend we went to the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. There were a lot of people there who wanted to drive out on the salt, but a police officer was passing out tickets when they drove back because it is not legal to drive on the salt right now. If you can make it out there- it is fun to walk on the salt, play frisbee, and have a picnic while enjoying the sunshine. Bring a hat and some sunscreen. And bring a beach umbrella if you plan on staying a while. It can get really hot out there, so a spring time visit is great.... just Don't Drive on the Salt right now.... even though a lot of people are... they are going to get ticketed. Here is a video to enjoy about the Bonneville Salt Flats! Hello Mighty Meadowlarks!
I had a short- (25 minute) meeting with 4th, 5th and 6th grade today! It was great to talk with those of you who were able to make it. School work at home is difficult! I hope you are making it work for you. I haven't heard back from anyone via e-mail so I hope you are just focusing on your school work. I am going to work to try to get a 6th Grade TEAMS meeting going for next week. Stay tuned and look for an invitation.... For a fun adventure... it costs a little money and your parents need to take you... Follow the link to a Drive-Thru Animal Farm. You can't get out of your car, but you can look at the animals. We are going next week- 4/13/2020 0 Comments Spiral Jetty...I hope you had a great weekend! We went to the Spiral Jetty this weekend to get out of town. When we got there it was unusually crowded and the Great Salt Lake water was at a low level with pink water.
What is going on here? The Spiral Jetty is a unique piece of land art created by Robert Smithson. He was married to Nancy Holt. Robert Smithson died in an airplane crash a few years after he made this artwork in April of 1970! The Spiral Jetty is 50 years old and it is celebrating it's birthday this month!!! A lot of people come up to see the Spiral Jetty on it's birthday! :) On the way to the Spiral Jetty you drive past The Golden Spike National Historic Site. The Golden Spike connected East Coast Trains with West Coast Trains and formed the First Transcontinental Railroad in 1869! Why is the lake low? The Great Salt Lake is the end-of-the-line for water that melts and runs into the lake during the spring. It may be low because there is still snow melting in the mountains that will run into the lake, or, people take the water from streams to live, and the lake has a natural process of shrinking and growing due to changes in the climate. Why is the Great Salt Lake Pink? The Great Salt Lake is Pink because it is full of living microbes that have a rosy hue and they are growing in abundance right now due to the right weather and temperatures. If you get a chance to go on a drive with your family- you can head up to the Great Salt Lake.... don't move rocks and don't leave trash! It is a special artwork that is owned by the Dia Foundation and is a significant cultural artifact of Utah. The drive is about 2 hours North with a turn off at Corrine Utah. 4/8/2020 0 Comments Closed... due to COVID-19Today I drove up to Layton to see if there was a cool adventure waiting for us... NOPE!
The Great Salt Lake Shorelands Preserve was closed. :( So, back home I go. I can't wait to be able to go to fun things again- and to see my friends. In the mean time- here are some pictures of the Great Salt Lake Nature Preserve so you can plan to go there when they open. 4/7/2020 0 Comments MemoriesHello Mighty Meadowlarks!
I'm starting to get used to working from home now. My friend, who is a doctor keeps telling me to wear a mask and stay inside. I hope you are practicing all safe things that the doctors say to do. Keep yourself safe and wear masks, or bandanas and wash your hands a lot! 4/6/2020 0 Comments I love a parade!Thank-you to all the Meadowlarks and their families who peeked out the window and showed up to the parade with signs! It was great to see everyone and it was a reminder about how much I miss you all!
I hope those of you who missed the parade are doing well and I hope your neighbors are checking on you and making sure you are ok. More art projects... coming tomorrow! |
